Tidal Energy: Nova Innovation

A Sea of Opportunities
Nova Innovation, the world's leading tidal energy company and ILAC partner, is transforming the power of our seas into clean, predictable energy.
NOVA INNOVATION is a world leader in tidal energy working on three continents and its mission is to make tidal energy mainstream and improve the lives of coastal populations around the world.
The company is committed to providing clean and predictable electricity to customers around the world from tidal, estuary and large riverbeds and has experience in evaluating, designing, supplying, operating and maintaining marine energy systems - from from tidal to subsea connectors, smart energy microgrids, energy storage and electric vehicle charging.

The turbines
Nova Innovation's 100 kW tidal turbines generate clean electricity from the natural movement of the tides.
The turbines are designed for various types of locations and conditions, offering up-to-the-minute predictability - days, months and even years in advance.

Nova Innovation's tidal turbines offer several important benefits and advantages, such as:
they are fast to deploy : the plug and play system allows your turbines to be placed in containers, transported and installed anywhere in the world using locally available infrastructure;
they have no visual impact : the underwater turbines are invisible, with no impact on the landscape or navigation;
have high reliability : Nova Innovation's direct drive technology, robust design and first-rate partners guarantee high quality and low maintenance;
offer high performance : Nova Innovation's years of operational experience contribute to its systems being highly efficient, guaranteeing an optimal return on investment even at lower tidal flows;
are eco-friendly : this technology is ecologically correct, as they work in perfect harmony with wildlife and the environment.
Shetland Tidal Array: A success story

The world's first offshore tidal power array installed on Bluemull Sound in Shetland in 2016, the Shetland Tidal Array has powered the Shetland grid and has provided reliable, predictable power to homes and businesses since it was installed in 2016.
Following the success of the first three turbines and the positive impact they have had on the local economy and Shetland's carbon emissions, Nova is currently increasing the capacity of the Shetland Tidal Array to six turbines.
Since its installation, the Shetland Tidal Array has provided numerous revolutionary commercial advances, including the world's first baseload tidal power production unit in collaboration with Tesla and the €20 million EnFAIT (Enabling Future Arrays in Tidal) project. of the European Commission, which demonstrates the bankability of tidal energy.
Other Nova Innovation Projects include:
-
The " Nova Tidal Array " – a 1.5 MW tidal power project for 15 turbines in Canada that is under construction that will produce electricity for Canadian utility Nova Scotia Power and provide clean, predictable electricity to utilities and Nova Scotia residences;
-
The company is currently working with local partners in Indonesia to implement its transformative technology and deliver predictable, clean energy to the world's largest archipelago, with more than 17,000 islands and a vast tidal energy resource.
The Challenge and the Solution
Climate change is the greatest global challenge of our times and to face its undeniable emergence, we must massively reduce carbon emissions and overcome dependence on fossil fuels, opting for the use of renewable energy sources.
Climate change is the greatest global challenge of our times and to face its undeniable emergence, we must massively reduce carbon emissions and overcome dependence on fossil fuels, opting for the use of renewable energy sources.
At the same time that climate change is being felt, the world demand for energy continues to increase and it appears that solar and wind energy are not enough to fill these gaps on their own, which is the justification for needing predictable new sources. of renewable energy to serve as a complement to those already in use.
Tidal energy is a great solution because it is clean and predictable energy and underwater tidal turbines do not have a visual impact on the landscape, working in harmony with the natural environment, and they can generate the same amount of energy as wind in a much smaller area.

Tidal Stream
It captures energy from moving water on the tide using devices that look like underwater wind turbines.
The flow of water causes the blades to rotate and generate electricity.

Tidal Barrage
It involves building a specialized dam across the entire width of a river/estuary to take advantage of changing tidal levels to produce energy.
A tidal lagoon works on the same principle, but the walls of the dam form a loop from the shore rather than across the width of the river.
Tidal energy is global, abundant and a valuable yet untapped source of renewable energy.
However, Nova Innovation's proven and innovative technology is unlocking the immense power of the seas across the planet and allowing coastal populations around the world to now benefit from this immense source of clean, predictable and reliable energy.
